Copacking
A contract packer, or co-packer, is a company that manufactures and packages foods or other products for their clients. A copacker works under contract with the hiring company to manufacture food as though the products were manufactured directly by the hiring company. Pino's primary business is producing our own line of sauces but we do some copacking for select clients on a limited basis. We are not capable of manufacturing all products in our facility. Our production line is designed to handle hot fill tomato based food products in the form of sauces such as pasta sauce, mexican style salsas, and BBQ sauce. We do not have equipment to roast fresh tomatoes or peppers for salsas. Our packaging capabilities are built around filling primarily round glass jars and bottles ranging from 16 ounces up to 1 gallon. The first step in determining if we can handle your product is to send us samples of finished product in sealed shelf stable containers. We do not handle refrigerated sauces, frozen products, or those containing meat or dairy.
Without having seen the product, the formulation/recipe and completing a test batch, it is generally not possible to estimate production costs. The cost to take a recipe from paper to a fully developed product which has been tested for safety and is ready for retail sale takes up to 2 months and costs anywhere from $1,500 - $2,500. There are additional costs that the new business owner will incur such as label and packaging development, product liability costs, legal fees etc. Plan on spending upwards of $5,000 per product. Pino's is a manufacturer only. We do not handle product distribution and marketing. Pino's works closely with prospective clients to save both parties time and money. There is a lot of good information available on the challenges of bringing new foods to market on the web. It pays to do your homework before you contact any copacker. If you are interested in finding out if your product is a good fit for our facility, please email us through the contact us link and a representative will get back to you. Reach out to us via email before sending any samples. Thank you for your interest, Pino Farinola Owner, Pino's Original Sauce, LLC. |
