WINTER 2008

Claudia Farinola and the Famous Sauce
For the many Duchesne families who grew up enjoying their family dinners at Pino's Restaurant, Claudia Farinola ' 82, was a major attraction.  While her sister, Tina ' 81, pursued a career with Southwest Airlines, Claudia spent her time at the famous family restaurant.  Possessing the gracious charm and enthusiasm of a true restaurateur and a Duchesne alum, she welcomed diners to the home that Pino's was.

There is no doubt that Claudia loves people, food, and Italy.  Claudia proposed the first Duchesne Alumnae Trip to Rome in 2001 and went along as guide and Italian translator.  She has been an inspiring Alum Chum since 1999 and served as the first Events Coordinator at Duchesne.

Alas, the restaurant on Hillcroft was closed in 2004 after 45 years and many loyal diners despaired.  But Claudia and her brother, Pino Farinola Jr., have embarked on a new career milestone with the launch of two Pino's sauces.  Original and Garlic Tomato, recall the wonderful lunches and dinners that Duchesne families enjoyed for generations.

Other favorites from the restaurant could be available in the future.  There is a large demand for Pino's cheescake, and Claudia says, "Who knows...maybe?"  The sauces can be purchased at Rice Epicurean, Central Market, and Spec's stores that sell gourmet foods.  Kroger also plans to stock the sauces soon.  The Pino's history and pictures can be viewed at www.pinosoriginalsauce.com.
